So. We’re finally here. The end of the canon Disney reviews. And a lot of people have been asking what will happen when we get here, so let me just answer the most common questions right off the bat.

NO. I still love doing it, hopefully you still enjoy reading it so I see no reason to stop now.

Alright, so there’s something you all should know. Earlier this year I got pretty much the best news of my entire writing career and was commissioned by the Abbey Theatre to write a play for them.
I’ve been working on the first draft for the last few months and it’s due to be handed in early 2015. Now, ideally, I want to keep updating Unshaved Mouse as regularly as I have before but I may occasionally have to take a break here and there to keep on top of this. Sorry. It’s a choice between doing something I love and doing something I love and actually getting paid for it, so…yeah.
What happened to you Mouse? You used to be cool.

Alright, so what’s next for Unshaved Mouse?
A lot, including some stuff I’m extremely excited about so listen up.
- A break. I’ve been doing the blog almost nonstop for the last two years so I think this is a natural point to take a rest. I’m taking off October and November and there should be a new review up 03 December. Depending on how the play is going and Christmas, I’ll try to get a second review in some time in December and then by the new year I hope to be back at full speed.
- Finishing off the Joanna reviews. So many people donated to Joanna, that, amazingly, I still have enough reviews scheduled to last us into the middle of 2015. There’s a great mix of movies still to come, stop motion, animé, nostalgic fair and even a few episodes of cartoon shows. Once I’ve paid off all debts however, that’s when the next chapter of Unshaved Mouse really begins.

Yes, from around July 2015 onward I will be reviewing all the movies based on Marvel comics characters (hey, they’re owned by Disney, it’s a logical step). I’ll be reviewing the good, the bad, the awesome and the aborted pilots of seventies TV shows and may God have mercy on my soul. This will be the new “regular” series, like the canon Disney movies were before.

Oh my God, you’re going to start making money off this, aren’t you?!
NO. I use a lot of copywritten material in this blog which is Fair Use as long as this is just a hobby I’m doing for my own entertainment and yours. Once I start using it to line my own pockets, it becomes a lot more ethically dubious. What am I’m talking about is using the blog to raise money for charity, so we can all do some good and hopefully have a lot of fun too.

I am hereby announcing the Unshaved Mouse Charity Movie Deathmatch! I hope to raise money for a very worthwhile cause, Love Without Boundaries.
How does it work?
If there’s a movie you’ve always wanted me to review, sound off in the comments below. As many as you like. As long as it’s either animated or based on a comic book it’s a contender. I’ll also accept live action Disney movies like Maleficent or Saving Mr Banks.
I will select around twelve of those movies and over the course of a month, you the readers will vote on the movies you want me to review, with the top three getting the treatment. How do you vote?
Democracy is overrated. Plutocracy is what all the cool kids are into these days! To vote, simply make a donation to Love Without Boundaries, email the receipt to unshavedmouse@gmail.com and tell me what movie gets your vote. You can donate as many times as you like (please do), and vote as many times as you like (please do).
We sit back and watch the carnage unfold as factions are formed, blood is spilt, the tension, the drama, who’s ahead, who’s behind and best of all it’s all for a great cause.
The winners get reviewed and you all get to complain that Secret of NIMH was robbed or whatever.
So who’s getting my money?
Love without Boundaries is an organisation that works to help children in Chinese orphanages, raising money for medical procedures, providing better food and education and helping to connect children with prospective foster families. It’s strictly volunteer (none of their workers collect a salary) and is rated four out of a possible four stars by Charity Navigator.
Seems like a great cause Mouse, but I’m broke.
You can still help out. For starters, let me know what movies you want to be in contention. If a movie gets plenty of nominations then I’ll know there’s a lot of interest for it. Second, please share this on the Face Book and the Twitters.

Movie Deathmatch is going to run for all of February 2015. At the end of each week the I’ll announce the state of play and eliminate the two lowest scoring movies with the three winners being announced at the end.

And thus begins, the dawning of a new era…
That’s….hillarious. The post isn’t up yet, but last week I prepared my one year anniversary (which will be next month) post in which I announce that I take a break until December, in which I’ll do another fairy tale month after which I’ll change the pace of my blog a little bit with a new project. And while I haven’t officially announced it yet (and didn’t plan to do it in my own blog before the next year starts) said project will be…discussing the female characters in Comic Book Adaptations, starting with the Amazing Spiderman Movies and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. (Nope, I am not making that up, I am already preparing and writing the articles for this. You won’t believe how often I watched some of the movies by now, trying to figuring out what bugs me about them and what I like).
Now I am tempted to wait a little bit, because you’ll certainly provide a lot of awesome background information only a true comic book fan would know…but then, I wanted to write them from the perspective of someone who is not particularly interested in comics, so it might be a good thing that I am ahead of your posts in my preparations….
I can’t believe it has been almost a year since you started your blog. Only seemed like yesterday when I was trying to convince you to star your own WordPress blog. Your future projects sound endearing as well.

I didn’t post this last week, so I’ll sum it up this week. I first heard about your blog on thatguywiththeglasses.com and the new review at the time was Beauty and the Beast. I read it enjoyed it, read your previous reviews, and read your new reviews as they got released. Around the time your Aladdin review went up, something bad happened in my life and I needed something to get me to crack a little smile. Your Aladdin review did just that (and a little more) and I’m thankful for that. Then when your review of Atlantis went up, that’s when I started commenting on your reviews. And I’ll be sure to read and comment on future posts of yours as well. Because your reviews are great, inspiring, and deserve to be read and commented on.
Just to clarify, what exactly are you going to be reviewing from Marvel? The direct to video animated movies? The animated TV shows? The live-action movies (before and after Disney’s purchase of Marvel)? If it’s the direct to video movies, I’m not sure if I’ll be as familiar with them as I am with the direct to video DC films (a lot of them were on Amazon prime, I was bored and had the time to watch them, and so I did). In fact, I’d love to see you review Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker and Justice League: Doom (even though they’re DC and not Marvel). And I don’t know if I can donate money at the moment, with bills to pay and what not. Sorry. If you do review the direct to video movies or the live-action ones, I guess I can watch them before your review goes up, but a TV series I haven’t really watched before? I’d need more time (and maybe patience) to watch them to the end. So if you could clarify, that would be great. Thanks!

Hi Anon. Firstly, if my writing helped you through a bad time that makes me immensely happy and I’m so glad you started commenting here. I actually don’t have a nailed down plan yet. I’ll be starting with Marvel’s Avengers movies, maybe the Spider-man movies and then? Who knows.
Neat. I love the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so it’ll be cool to see you review those movies.
As for other movies I wanna see you review, I’ll go ahead and say Whisper of the Heart, The Prince of Egypt, Persepolis, Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox, Up and the Kung Fu Panda movies. There’s probably other stuff I’m not thinking of, but other people will probably say them.

Sweet! I love that movie and personally think it’s underrated and deserves more views. I also think that even though it’s based off religion (the Book of Exodus in the Bible) and has religion in it, it doesn’t shove it down your throat. I’ve heard of atheists who enjoy the movie. So if Prince of Egypt is to be expected, I am very looking forward to it (though I will have to wait a while)!

Oh, hells yes. PoE remains one of my favorite animated films ever, and the music. Dear Old Testament thunder-and-lightning God, the music. The only point I’d argue is that it’s ‘underrated’, for the simple reason that just about everyone I know has seen it and loves the hell out of it.
I only mean “underrated” as in not a lot of people talk about it these days anymore. A shame, really.
Well, I am glad that this is definitely not the end of your blog. A break is definitely well deserved for you, and a month and a half break is fine. We can last. Real life is more important than a blog. GET PAID.

Well, Mouse. Marvel: I’m not a really big fan of it but that is not the point. I came to your blog to see your opinion on the animated movie that I’m a really big fan of (The Lion King) but I stayed to read all your reviews because they were REALLY funny, even the ones about movies I’ve never watched or have interest to watch. So I will stay here, through thick and thin. The Charity Thingy: I’d love to help you, but I seem to be unable to help you in any manner because: 1) I’m under 18 and I can’t donate and 2) None of my friends know the English language enough to read all this stuff (they are not very big fans of reading either). I can’t believe you’re already done with the Disney canon! Marvel movies…interesting. I mainly followed Spider-Man and that’s it, but should be interesting. As far as live-action Disney movies go…I’ve always wanted to see you review Old Yeller. That’s by far one of my favorites. I hated Maleficent, so it would be interesting to see you review that, and I believe I mentioned that High School Musical is the worst movie I’ve ever seen (that’s a Disney Channel Original Movie).

I rewatched Old Yeller a few months ago, first time I had seen it in probably close to 10 years. I was expecting it to be good but I was surprised by just how good it was. It just works so well. It really does a great job of building up the relationship between Travis and Yeller. You really grow to love that damn dog just as he does.
Oooh, this is some really awesome news Mouse. So are you going to be reviewing all the Marvel animated stuff in addition to the live action films? If yes, can you please please please just do one quick post with your thoughts on Spiderman and his Amazing Friends? In particular the episode with the greatest Marvel villain of all time, Swarm. You see, he’s a literal sentient swarm of bees. And he’s called Swarm. It’s wonderful.

As for review requests, since you’ve already dabbled in the Bluth-verse with An American Tail, it’s only far to give the other 3 Big Threesome Mousey Mousey loving; of course I’m talking about All Dogs Go To Heaven, Land Before Time, and unofficial best movie ever Secret of NIMH (I’ll spare you the rest…nobody deserves A Troll in Central Park x_x).
In terms of a superhero related review, one of my favorites is Superman vs. The Elite. I’d be curious to see how you’d feel about that one. It’s almost if it was intentionally designed to go “You wanna know why Superman is still relevant and awesome, Superman naysayers? THIS IS WHY.” It got the bad taste of that…2013 THING masquerading as a Superman movie out of my mouth (*shudders* again, I’ll spare you and not request THAT) and made me a Superfan for good.

(Though I admit Simba’s Pride, Aladdin and the King of Thieves, and Pooh’s Grand Adventure are among my guiltiest pleasures. There, I said it.)
I’d also be curious to see you review Gay Purree or Balto (epic score is epic.) Maybe Anastasia or Titan A.E. Is based on a tabletop game close enough? If so, the live action Dungeons & Dragons would make an amusing review.

Good job Mouse, I really do think you’re one of the best bloggers and reviewers around and I’m real interested into where yo go next, Marvel studios should be pretty fun, but aside from that, you really do deserve this break, you’ve earned it.
As far as suggestions go, I don’t think these are really going to win the top 3 considering not a whole lot of people talk or know about them at least to me, but that’s sort of why I picked them, as for right now, it’s Igor (2008) and Surf’s Up (2007), both films I somewhat find interesting and I like some things about them and I think deserve at least a look.

I doubt anyone knows about this film, but “Samson og Sally” was a film I considered for my donation film, but went with a different one instead. it’s a mind-freak animated foreign film that I found on youtube. (it’s low quality, but it is in english.)

Ok, let’s see here, what would I like to see reviewed? Do suggestions stack, I wonder? Does more people asking for it improve chances of review? How about I second other people just in case. And if I state something that already has been or will be reviewed, they can be disregarded
Ok, for fringe-y Disney movies, how about The Reluctant Dragon, Winnie the Pooh’s Grand Adventure, and, as I’ve mentioned before, Mickey’s Christmas Carol. Actually, why not throw The Tigger Movie and Piglet’s Big Movie in as well?
For the CG scene, I tend to agree with your stance on Pixar movies, but I’ll nominate Monster’s University, as that’s the only one I’m kind of iffy on right now. As for other studios, How about Shrek (it’d be pretty cool to hear more about the Revenge of the Red Skull), Madagascar 1 and 2 (your race discussions on some of Disney’s movies got me weirdly curious to hear your opinion on the casting here), Ice Age 1 and 2 (dunno, I just liked them), Kung Fu Panda (China liked it more than it did Mulan, what say ye?) and maybe Happy Feet, Hoodwinked, Surf’s Up, Open Season and Robots? (I was kind of not sure about those ones, curious on your opinion).
And as for 2d animation, did anyone ask for the Brave Little Toaster? Also, I second Balto, and maybe some of the Bluth movies, especially after getting teasers in some of your Disney reviews. Land Before Time (aka bastard of Bluth the Whore), Fievel Goes West (the throwbacks to the Bald Mouse episode could be uproarious), Anastasia and Thumbelina ought to be good. I’m also suggesting Gallivants (I think that’s how it’s spelled), The Little Blue Engine That Could, Babes In Toyland (1997 cartoon), The Seventh Brother, The Forgotten Toys and maybe Rikki Tikki Tavi (or however you spell that mongoose movie’s name)?
I’m not sure I’ve seen enough live action movie reviews from you to know what I’d enjoy you reviewing, so I guess I’ll just bring up relevant ones like Maleficent (how does Jolie compare to Audley)? and Burton’s Alice in Wonderland (Doug Walker summed up his issues with it from a fan’s perspective really nicely, but what says the non-fan of the source material?).
…And maybe throw a couple ones I have grudges against in hopes of seeing them burn. Lizzie McGuire movie and Leprechaun? Mercy on your souls.
Also, let’s throw in Hook for opposite reasons of Alice in Wonderland. Did this one do Barrie’s book more or less of an injustice than Disney’s animated movie?
And seeing as you’re getting onto the superhero scene, might as well put Watchmen out there. And Where The Wild Things Are (the 2009 one), I’d like to hear your take on that one.
…And Nemo in Dreamland, and in case seconding is possible, I will second Road to El Dorado! Also, how about a few classic animated Disney movies, how about Sound of Music and Swiss Family Robinson?

Also, Animal Farm. Whichever version’s up to you, but I could see an uproarious revenge from Comrade Crow happening there.

Thank you for spending all your time writing these reviews! They’re amazing and never fail to cheer me up on a bad day. Sometimes I just love going back and rereading your reviews of my favorite movies, and it never fails to bring a huge grin to my face.
If you’re looking for more movies, how about How to Train Your Dragon, its sequel, and Rise of the Guardians?

Congrats, UM! Wow, it’s been a long time since I got out of lurking. I’m glad you finally accomplished your goal of reviewing all of the Disney animated canon movies in the span of 2 years. I’ve been loving and following your blog since nearly the beginning and I hope you continue writing your movie reviews! 🙂
I think it would be great if you finished reviewing the rest of the Bluthimations since you already wrote the American Tail review (and maybe some of the “Bluth” sequels that were never made by the man himself like Fievel Goes West and ADGTH 2, but I wouldn’t want you to sit through the abomination known as Secret of NIMH 2: Timmy to the Rescue or the plethora of Land Before Time sequels).
Also, I’ve always wanted to hear your opinions on The Swan Princess, Balto, The Iron Giant, the two movies made by Walt Disney’s biggest rivals in the 1930’s, the Fleischer Bros, Gulliver’s Travels and Mr. Bug Goes to Town, and the two Filmation “Disney sequels”, Pinocchio and the Emperor of the Night and Happily Ever After. Emperor of the Night, in particular, is a movie I both loved and detested as a kid. Part of that could be because I found it even creepier than Disney’s Pinocchio.
